So You Want to Start a Clothes Closet Charity Ministry!

The apostle Paul said: "But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth love of God in him?"  1 John 3:17KJV

We give God the glory for anyone wanting to take a step that blesses others, materially, physically, and spiritually.

Our goal is to encourage the churches all over the world to take back the things that we gave to the world to handle. A church doesn't have to be large in number for this to work. It is a commandment to us that we feed and clothe along with feeding the spiritually hungry.

Try the same thing with clothes. Get a few metal clothes closets, or build some clothes racks, and put them out of the way somewhere in the church. Maybe your church has a spare room that will accomadate the clothes closet and food pantry. Explain to the church patrons what is taking place. Let them know that anything they cannot use can be brought here. Ask for them to donate clothes. This is primarliy used for the folks in the church. If someone doesn't feel dressed good enough to attend the church meetings, get something from the clothes closet. If there is a need that is not in the clothes closet, ask the church members to donate the items. This could happen if there isn't the right size of dress, for example. It will work if God is in it. Try IT!!!

Maybe your church doesn't want to get involved with this, or maybe you want to accomplish this on a larger scale. The very first thing is to start a non prfit outreach program. For this you need to be incorporated as such and then apply for a 501-c-3 status from the IRS. This gives you the advantage of giving receipts so people can deduct their donations for tax purposes.

Now you need a building to house the clothes. This facility should have room to sort and size the donated clothes. Racks should be installed to hang the clothes on by size, style, etc. Shelves should be set up to place clothes that can be folded. Now let the community know that you are opening a clothes closet and the rest will be history.

You will need to determine from the beginning if you will sell some of the goods received in a thrift store setting to help offset the cost of operation, or whether everything will be given away.
