It's common to see church signs designating times of worship, but most people have never had a personal experience of true worship.
What really is worship? The Homan Bible Dictionary states that worship is the "human response to the perceived presence of the divine, a presence that transcends normal human activity and is holy." It further relates: "This consciousness of holy presence brings forth a response from those who perceived it."
Do we respond to the presence of God? If so, how do we respond? Some people hide from the Lord. Some run from His presence. Others just sit there during times of worship with confusion in their minds.
Sometimes worshipping God can be time devoted to prayer while other times our response to the presence of God is to be silent and listen to what our Creator is speaking into our hearts. At times worship can lead us to become like King David who danced before the Lord.
Jacob responded to the presence of God in this manner as read in Genesis 28: (16) "And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not." (17) "And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven." (18) "And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it."

Jacob stopped for the night to sleep, not knowing God was there. But when he realized the presence of the Almighty his response was immediate. Jacob went so far as to make an altar and anoint it with oil.
Do we even recognize the presence of God today in our lives? Do we let God's Holy Spirit speak to us? Now is the time to experience worship like never before.
Jesus said though in Matthew 15:9 that "...in vain they do worship me." Do we know someone that worships but in vain? Maybe it is ourselves? King David wrote this in Psalm 29:2: "...worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness."
Our outward appearance does not make us holy. The saying is true: The long dress, the long hair, and the long tongue! Holiness is created on the inside and through the light of Christ it shines for all to see. Use that light to worship God in His Holy Presence.
