But When It Pleased God, Who Seperated Me, To Reveal His Son In Me

"As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison." - Acts 8:3

The man we know in the Bible as the apostle Paul had a very disturbing past. His name was Saul at this time in his life. He went from town to town to eradicate God believing people. He was Jewish and a educated man, strictly following the Torah, and was a rabbinic heir.

In Acts 9:1-2 (not quoted) we read that Saul was preparing for another journey to imprison more Christians. But on this journey something dramatic happened. The story is found in Acts 9:3-18. This scripture is not quoted but I encourage you to get a Bible and read it.

Here is the essence: "And as he journeyed . . . suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks."

Do you ever find yourself bucking against God's divine purpose for us? How quick do we give in to the Lord? Let's read further what Saul said: "And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do."

Saul was already a man destined to do the will of God. He just didn't know it. But the event was so shocking that he apparently didn't hesitate for a moment. Saul knew the scriptures that foretold Jesus coming and he even knew of the Lord's teachings. There was plenty of opportunity for him to turn his life to the Lord's work, but he went on making a name for himself.

How many times do we do the same thing? Saul was struck to the ground by the voice of the Lord, and when he arose and opened his eyes he was blind. God has no desire to put us through what we go through, but sometimes that is the only way to get our attention.

After the apostle Paul was in his ministry he wrote to the churches in Galatia this: "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mothers womb, and called me by His grace, to reveal His Son in me that I might preach Him among the heathen, immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood." - Galatians 1:15-16.

Paul was telling us that he immediately switched gears (so to speak) in his life. He stated "When it pleased God" I accepted the call. If we could just say that. Sometimes God will direct us here, then there. Sometimes He will tell to do this, and after we followed through the Lord gives us something else to do.

The point we need to focus on is "When it pleased God". Is what we are doing pleasing to God? Did the Lord direct us to do what we are doing at the moment? Sometimes we need to wait on the Lord, but other times God is waiting on us.

God separated us from the flesh so we could do the things of the Spirit. This is the only way He can reveal His Son in us.

When people look at us, can they see Christ through us (or in us)?
