The Sins of a Country

“Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,…” Ezekiel 16:1-2

At the beginning of Ezekiel chapter 16 the Lord spoke to Ezekiel on behalf of Jerusalem. The prophet’s assignment was to tell the people that their sins have been uncovered and that God was going to deal with them. God compared Jerusalem to Sodom and her sister cities, and even Samaria. The cities that surrounded Jerusalem had less sin in God’s eyes then His own people.

But the same scripture has a prophetic link to America today. This country was settled by God fearing people who, according to history, made a sort of covenant with God, that godly values and principles were even included into law.

According to Ezekiel 16, there was a covenant made between God and Jerusalem, and the Lord gave them wealth of precious jewels, plenty to eat and drink, and money. Jerusalem was recognized by her wealth.

This country was founded on God. As our nation grew, we also grew in much acclaimed wealth for many. The country was blessed of God and it became a world power.

Then one day we gave the government permission to remove God from us. The first step was taking the Bible out of the schools. After that event, prayer and all public display of godly devotion can be grounds for anything from school dismissal to teen murdering teen.

Now we tolerate the very idea of our children being taught that homosexuality is a normal lifestyle. This is far from normal. It is sick and perverted, and from the devil. How can we know this?

In Romans 1:26-27 Paul tells us that Almighty God will turn people with such desires over to vile affections, and further to a reprobate mind (verse 28). Even if we don’t believe in Almighty God in heaven, doesn’t remove God from us. The Lord will not tolerate such perversion and turning away from Him.

The first iniquity that is mentioned about Sodom was Pride. We are a prideful nation. The second and fourth sin was the city being fat with bread and not giving to the poor. Does this sound a little like America, as a whole? The Lord will walk away from this country. It is only a matter of time. God will rise up against anyone who will not obey Him, and He will destroy such people.

But God also has set in place life without end, in peace and love, unto perfection to those who harken to His commandments and turn away from their sin - Romans 6:22-23.
