Psalm 91:1(KJV) "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
How many of us have ever really searched the meaning of this verse? That secret place is where we find total rest from this world. You may ask, "How do you find that secret place?" I'm so glad that you asked!
To find the secret place that the psalmist speaks of, we must first allow God to enter and wash away our secret place. How do we do this you ask?
First, we must understand that is God is love! Let's look to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 to help us understand God's love.
1 Cor. 13:(4) "Love suffers long, and is kind; love envies not; love vaunts not itself, is not puffed up," (5) "Does not behave itself rudely, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, keeps no record of evil;" (6) "Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;"(7) "Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
When we come to the understanding of what love truly is, only then, can we allow ourselves to be opened up to God's presence and His wisdom.
Love holds no grudges no wrongs that have been done to us in the past. If you suffered from physical abuse as a child God's love is enough to take that pain away and replace it with joy and gladness. If you were sexually molested or abused as a child God can and is only waiting for you to allow Him into that secret place of your heart that has been hidden.
Let's picture our hearts like a room in a house, for we are the temple of the Lord.
|
Our heart is all beautifully decorated nice curtains at the windows, beautiful knick-knacks on the shelves, and cozy seating, all nice to look at. But, under a set of those curtains is a hidden room. This room is where we have stored all those little secrets that have caused us shame, pain, anger, hurt, depression, exhaustion, and much more. We live just fine until something triggers that door to suddenly open then out pop all those secrets! We are transformed into someone that is actually a stranger to those around us.
That secret place can damage a marriage, our workplace relationships, and any day to day relationships. As we allow God to enter into that secret room (place) of shame, pain, anger, hurt, depression, and other things out. For God's Love conquers ALL!
When God gets control of that secret place then and only then can we TRULY KNOW His Secret Place!
Let's look at Peter. Peter had a secret place where his past was hidden. He even denied knowing or being with Christ, but he gave it all over to God after the day of Pentecost. How do I know this?
In Acts 5 we read that people brought the sick into the streets that the shadow of Peter might fall on them. The shadow that people thought was Peter's was actually the shadow of the Almighty. How do I know this?
Consider what the psalmist said: he that dwelleth (remains) in the secret place of the Most High shall abide (stay) under the shadow of the Almighty. Peter dwelt in that secret place and because of that he was overshadowed by the Almighty. So as he walked down the street people only saw his shadow but spiritually it was the shadow of the Almighty.
Are we ready to dwell in that secret place?
